Enbridge advisory meeting to be held

Enbridge Northern Gateway will be holding meetings in Kitimat and Smithers next week, some that will be open to the general public and some that won’t.

Enbridge’s multi-billion dollar proposed pipeline project would transport oil and condensate through twin pipelines between Alberta and Kitimat, with the oil being shipped overseas.

Community advisory boards have been set up in various areas of the proposed pipeline that involve stakeholders meeting regularly to gain more information on the project and ask questions.

There are some focused on marine issues, while others focus on economics or the environment.

An initial community advisory board meeting was held in Terrace earlier this summer, but has been moved to Smithers to be more accessible to people in the region.

The community advisory board is meeting again in Kitimat Dec. 8 and Smithers Dec. 9. during the day.

There will also be meetings open to the public in those locations during the evenings; the Kitimat meeting will be at River Lodge from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the Smithers meeting will be at Hudson Bay Lodge at the Summit Room from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Those interested can ask questions about the proposed pipeline project and related processes.
