Excerpt from Alberta Liberals / Kevin Taft on "Labour Shortages"
The following post is excerpted from a recent policy wonk statement from the "choice" in Alberta for the upcoming provincial election. The Liberals promise to do nothing to improve labour standards, and instead plan to expand the human rights disaster of the temporary foreign worker programs. The quote "We will create a steady supply of skilled labour that meets the demands of our growing province well into the future.[...]" is a very telling one, because the absolutely astronomical programs of development demanded by the US Energy needs and supported by the big energy companies have no equal in North American history. The labour will not be there, unless slaves from the Global South are acceptable. And, to Taft (and Eddie) they are.

Solving the Labour Crunch
Another major issue for the oil and gas sector is the crippling labour shortage that affects the entire province. This problem has increased industry costs as projects are delayed and inflation eats into the bottom line.
An Alberta Liberal government will work hard to solve the labour crunch facing our province, especially the oil and gas sector.
Here are a few of the steps we will take:
* Plan ahead with a comprehensive human-resources strategy to better anticipate changes in Alberta's labour needs.
* Expand the Provincial Nominee Program.
* Support excellent post-secondary education, including technical and trade schools. These are proven drivers of the economy, and the skilled workers they produce today will help fuel our economy for decades.
* Allow temporary foreign workers when other sources of labour have been exhausted.
We will create a steady supply of skilled labour that meets the demands of our growing province well into the future.
If voters give us the chance to form the next government, the Alberta Liberals look forward to working with the oil and gas industry as we build a province that will step into its rightful role as a leader in Canada and around the world.
This position paper was written by a staff member of the Alberta Liberal Party and reviewed by its leader Kevin Taft, MLA for Edmonton-Riverview.
