With the land already compromised South and the tarsands themselves so vast and ugly, these are the projects that we can safely overlook or play down, right?
Climate Change is caused by greenhouse gas emissions, in particular carbon. 40% of Canada’s emissions already come from Alberta alone, not counting the entire tar sands infrastructure across North America nor counting the projected increase in tar sands production or the infrastructure built across the continent to accommodate such increases in production. Factor it all in and you get the picture. You haven’t even burned the petrol yet.
With the land already compromised South and the tarsands themselves so vast and ugly, these are the projects that we can safely overlook or play down, right?
When these are the types of editorials written by those most sympathetic to the tarsand producers, we know the tide is slowly yet surely turning.

There’s a battle brewing out there. People are getting right ticked off.
The boom-to-end-all-booms is starting to look like a bust for many. And they are getting mad.
Already Premier Ed Stelmach has three not-in-my-backyard movements going in his constituency alone.

In labour hungry Alberta, more oil sands production is predicted through to the year 2020, a portent that may compound the province’s construction industry woes.
A Canadian Energy Research Institute (CERI) study predicts the oil sands in Fort McMurray will triple production, pushing spending over $7.5 billion mark.
Limited time for training and demand in ICI sector construction will be pushed to the limits when the bitumen boom hits its full potential.
The Tar Sands come to Kitimat

This pipeline is being challenged by the Alberta Federation of Labour and is now approved to help offset the increased capacity needed for the Tar Sands to continue to grow, such as the recently approved Kearl Project-- now Federally litigated against by groups such as the Pembina Institute and Sierra Legal. Stop these pipelines and stop the tar sands; Stop the tar sands and stop the Keystone pipeline. Imperial Oil is also pushing for the Mackenzie Gas Project, where the energy would help this Kearl Project send oil into the Keystone pipeline. Break the chain and stop them all.

"If the project in its current form is indeed on its last legs, it's nothing to be proud of. It would be one of the first energy megaprojects in Canada to fold at such an advanced stage due to cost increases, aboriginal sabotage and federal red tape.
