Westar Energy, which is engaged in power generation, transmission and distribution, has announced that it will build a 115kV high-capacity transmission line near Atchison, Kansas.

The new line is part of Westar Energy's agreement to support the TransCanada's Keystone Pipeline. The new transmission line will run from Westar's Walnut substation near Atchison to the future TC Severance substation, to be located approximately 10 miles north of Atchison in Doniphan County. This line will supply the electricity to a pump station needed to transport crude oil from Alberta, Canada to markets in the central US.

Westar is also proposing to construct a 115kV, high-capacity transmission line from the South Seneca substation to the future TC Seneca substation, to be located approximately 0.2 miles south of the 168th Street and State Route 63 intersection in Nemaha County. This project is also to support the TransCanada Keystone Pipeline operation.
